There was a story going around that some Uncles of Virginia's did come to Ireland at some time to take her back to New Jersey. But she did not know any of her family, so her Grand-Mother would not let her go.

Virginia got a job working for the "Irish Sweepstakes". Which was all the rage in those years. She met my Uncle Tom and they started to go out together. But when Tom took Virginia to his home in "Hiltonville" Ardee Road, Rathmines, to meet his Mother things did not go to well.

Tom's Mother Annie O'Driscoll was a true Irish republican, and when she heard that Virginia's Father was a Church of Ireland, that did not go down to well either. Annie O'Driscoll was from the old school. She did not believe in what she called mixed Marriage's.

And so Tom and Virginia eloped to HolyHead in Angelsea, to get Married in August 1936.

Then in November 1941 Virginia gave birth to there only child Elizabeth (Betty). Betty was the apple of Virginia & Tom's eye. They thought the world of her, taken her every where they went.
