  	WORLD WAR II NAVY VETERAN RETIRED DETECTIVE BOSTON POLICE DEPARTMENT James J. Conley of Bourne, a retired Boston police detective, died Saturday at Cape Heritage Nursing Home in Sandwich following a lengthy illness. He was 79. Born in Dorchester, Mr. Conley graduated from Mechanic's Arts High School, now Boston Technical High School. He moved to Bourne in 1977. He served in the Navy during World War II. Mr. Conley served on the Harbor Patrol for the Boston Police Department for 28 years. He retired in 1974. He was a member of the Boston Police Patrolman's Association and VFW Aptuxet Post in Bourne. Mr. Conley is survived by his wife, Mary M. (Irvine); two daughters, Patricia Brackett of Brockton and Midge of Mansfield; a son, James J. Jr. of Blackstone; two sisters, Margaret Roche of Milton and Marie Holzman of Falmouth; and four grandchildren. A funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10 a.m. today at St. John's Church, Pocasset.
